Interviewing

Don’t Be Scared…They Won’t Bite.

Are there any horror movies about interviews?  We don’t know of any, but the way job seekers fear them we wouldn’t be surprised.  Don’t be afraid.  Be prepared.

Interviewing:  Module 5

Interviews make everyone nervous, but with a little preparation, they can feel as natural as a regular conversation. From exploring different interview formats to providing valuable strategies and tips, you’ll learn the best ways to prepare for interviews. You’ll also learn how to identify some interview traps and methods to counter those traps for a more effective performance—one that will get you the best shot at the offer. It is important to know how to interview, but just as important to know how to “interview” the interviewer to find out the most important information about a job that no one typically shares. By focusing on “story telling” skills, this learning module will help you understand how to put your best foot forward.

Think about what’s especially important about the position for which you are interviewing.  Make a list of stories that you can tell that demonstrate your skills and experience in those areas.

If you think about it, all the stuff that you feel good about will just flow naturally which means the only thing you have to really prepare for is the stuff that you don’t feel good about.  Why don’t you feel good about it?  You don’t have a prepared explanation.

Ask yourself, Are there ways that these challenges could be perceived as strengths?  Is there hidden value in any of these areas? Can you express what you learned from your experience?

Knowing how to prepare, how to address the tough questions, what to wear, and interview etiquette are all important aspects to think about before you begin.
