Determine

When it comes to setting career goals it can be hard knowing where to start. Considering your expectations, weaknesses, and achievements is crucial. Use these questions to discover the best way to approach your goals.

  • Where are you exceeding expectations?
  • What areas are weak or outdated?
  • What meaningful action steps could you achieve to build momentum?

Answering these questions creates a map. A map which will help you determine how you will achieve your goals.

Prioritize

Remember, you’ve got to work at it. If you really want to make these goals happen, you can’t brush them aside for another day. Nothing will get done unless you take action. Get committed by working small. Start with a 15-minute block of time. Do the smallest and easiest thing first. This isn’t about working harder.

Align

However, not everything can be a priority. Figure out what matters most in your current situation and determine what effort is actually worth it. You may have to realign your initial action steps at this point. For example, you might need to figure out what will bring value to your boss, your position, and your job market. If your goals or action steps don’t align with the current work environment, readjust.

Each action step you establish today will help you build and maintain the career you want. You can do this!
